FORMER PORTER WRESTLER MAKES HEADLINES
Former Lockport High School standout Mark Stenberg returned home from a recent trip south of the border with another achievement to mark on his burgeoning wrestling resume. Stenberg won the Greco-Roman title in the 96 kg/211.5-pound weight class at the Pan American Junior Championships in Guadalajara, Mexico. He was one of two Americans to win titles, both them from Illinois. Scott Helton won in the 120 kg/264.5-pound class. Stenberg, after graduating from Lockport, enrolled at Northern Michigan University with an eye on someday making a run at the Olympics. He placed second in the 171-pound class in 3A state tournament last year and finished with a 39-4 record.
