LYONS -- The Lockport volleyball team picked the right time to get hot.
A week after taking state-ranked Wheaton St. Francis to three games, the Porters won the title at the Lyons Quad, defeating New Trier 25-15, 19-25, 25-20 in the semifinals and host Lyons 19-25, 25-21, 25-19 in the title match.
"This is a big win for us," Lockport coach Julia Hudson said. "Lyons is in the top five in the state in many polls, so we are peaking at the right time with the postseason starting Thursday."
Connor Callozzo led the Porters (24-11) with 3 aces, 22 good serve receives, 20 kills and 23 digs.
Lexi Finger had a team-high 40 good serve receives and 34 digs, while Christina Wilson had 32 assists and 16 digs. Allie Gritzman had 17 kills and 17 digs, while Danielle Sladek had 14 kills and 5 blocks. Alexis Davito had 16 kills, while Danielle Donahue had 3 aces.
Also at the Lyons Quad, Joliet Township beat Minooka 15-25, 26-24, 25-20 and lost to York 25-14, 26-24. Kim Vertin led the Steelmen with 16 kills, 13 blocks and 16 digs, while Breanne Shaw had 8 kills, 22 digs and 2 blocks. Marissa Graves had 37 assists, 5 blocks and 7 digs.
