Brooke Shimon
Schaumburg HS

Brooke is, without question, the most courageous competitor with whom I have ever been associated. Over the course of her high school career Brooke has persevered through surgeries on both elbows and a broken ankle, leaving her sidelined for a total of 12 months. Any one of these setbacks could derail even the toughest of gymnasts. Yet, she has refused to be seduced by the natural human tendency to focus on the past and ask “why me” and “what could have happened if”. Brooke’s dedication has been unwavering and she has maintained a forward-looking focus on what she and her team can achieve. Brooke is a born leader. Her enthusiasm, dedication, and work ethic are contagious and have lead her teammates and coaches to appoint her to captaincy three years running. This young woman and the people who associate with her simply cannot help but achieve the highest levels of success. Her teammates are better athletes, better students, and better people because of her leadership! Schaumburg gymnastics experienced the most successful season in its 40 year history and won a 3rd place trophy at the state meet. These accomplishments absolutely would not be possible without Brooke’s leadership! Some of Brooke’s personal achievements this season are MSL bars champion, regional beam and vault champion, Sectional bars, beam, and all-around champion, 6th place on bars (state) and 3rd place on beam (State). She was also nominated as senior gymnast of the year by the coaches association and was named a member of the Illinois national team.

He finished in 25th place with a time of 14 minutes 46 seconds the fastest time for a 25th place finish since 1976.
October 2010 - Male
Joe Zolper
Schaumburg HS

Joe is perhaps the most undersized lineman in the MSL. He, however, is the most impactful. Joe has been a fixture in opponents backfields through the 1st 6 games. He deserves much credit for the Saxons 4-2 start. Joe’s intensity and tenacity contribute to his success.
