MAROONS

Chatham Tournament
1
Central beat Soccer Powerhouse
Champaign Central started the Chatham tournament against heavy favorites Collinsville. Central starting the game brightly and looked dangerous every time they went forward but were unable to score. The Collinsville team was very athletic and organized and they took the lead midway through the first half. Central did not give up but their legs started to get tired as they were working hard throughout the half. The second half was a very different story as Central came out like a house on fire. Micah Walker and Nathan Chisholm started to get going and boss the game as they do on a regular basis. Clint Miller started to see his hard work pay off as the Collinsville defenders struggled to stay tight on him. Central missed a few chances early on to tie the game but it wasn't until midway through the second half that they finally did. Micah Walker got on the end of a Julio Zarco's through ball and did well to cross a teasing cross to the back pot. Atti Kurthy attacked the ball like he has done so many times this season and he managed to poke the ball home from close range. Central did not stop there. Five minutes later Clint Miller sent in a low cross to the front post for Nathan Chisholm to slide the ball past the impressive Collinsville goalkeeper. Atti Kurthy and Mark Martindale continued to keep things tight at the back and goal keeper Joe Daniels was having his most impressive game in goal. Collinsville tried their best to get back into the game and came close a few times. The scoring for Central was not done, Micah Walker's high pressure forced the Collinsville defender to give up the ball and he shot the ball from 25 yards out into the far left hand corner. Central withstood heavy pressure for the last 15 minutes but ran out 3-1 winners.
