"Girls' Swimming and Diving Takes Sectional Crown"
The Central High School girls' swimming and diving captured the 2009 Sectional title scoring 280 points, 26 points ahead of runner-up Danville. 

The 200-yard medley team of Mary Lacine, Sara Fundator, Emma Newman, and Hannah Newman kicked off the meet as they won the event by seconds in a time of 1:52.56. 

Emma Newman qualified for state in two individual events as she won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:57.34 and the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:07.54

Hannah Newman also qualified for state in two individual events as she placed second in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 58.83 and won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:00.62.

The 200-yard free relay team, comprised of Emma Newman, Morgan Davis, Mary Lacine, and Hannah Newman, qualified for state as they won the event in a time of 1:41.49.

Head Coach Will Barker was named Sectional Coach of the Year.

"McGill earns spot on team"
    Former Central swimming standout, Tyler McGill was named to the U.S team that will compete in the Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool in Manchester, England.  McGill is among 36 American male and female swimmers who will race a European team December 18-19.
    The U.S squad includes Olympic gold medalists Michael Phelps, Rebecca Soni, Ryan Lochte and Aaron Peirsol, and 13 other Olympians.
    McGill, a senior at Auburn, earned a gold medal in the 2009 FINA World Championships in Rome as a member of the U.S. 400-meter medley relay team.  The former Maroon is a 10-time NCAA All-American.

"Central Recognizes Storied Past"
Seeley Hall is now the proud home of two gigantic plaques recognizing Champaign Central's 380+ IHSA Top 10 Finishers.  A special thanks to our athletic alumni and friends for their outstanding fundraising efforts that made this project all possible. 

The list of Top 10 Finishers is very impressive and dates back to 1894!.  Stop by the high school to see the plaques.
