JV Volleyball triumphs at Normal Community
Centennial came out strong to start the match and led throughout. The game was close around 11-7, but the Chargers extended their lead to 19-9 and never looked back - relying particularly on a strong block with 5 points from blocks.
In set two, both teams engaged fully and the match was still tied at 10-10 and again at 19-19. Normal still had momentum, having trailed only briefly, and took the final few points to win 25-20. Centennial helped them thoughout with 6 service and other miscellaneous unforced errors.
Set three was again intense. The Chargers had a slight edge, but the score was tied a number of times through to 10-10 when the Chargers found new life and finished the match strong for the win.
During the match, Allie Shannon and McKenzie Bonnett each had 4 blocks
(for points). Olivia Johnson added two. Linsday Rogan had 10 assists
and 9 digs along with 2 kills and a block. Ellen Frazier had 5
assists. Rachel Swanson had 5 digs. Courtney Stamm, Bonnett, and
Shannon shared the lead with 4 kills each. Jennifer Wise and Johnson
each added 2 kills.
While the second set does end a streak of 37 straight sets won by the Chargers, a streak of 19 straight matches won continues. JV is 26-2 overall with a 7-1 Big 12 record and one conference match left to play. Due to other late season match-ups still ahead, there are still 5 Big 12 Junior Varsity squads with 2 or fewer conference losses. JV has 7 matches remaining in their season.
