JV Volleyball locks horns with Urbana, emerges on top
When the JV teams from Centennial and Urbana took the court, they knew one of them would be emerging with their third loss. Centennial was 24-2 with 17 straight matches won - all in a perfect two sets. Urbana also had only 2 losses after more than 20 matches played.
Set one was befitting teams with such strong and evenly-matched records. Urbana took advantage of early errors in Centennial's serve and serve receive and had a 7-13 lead. At 8-14, the Chargers began a service run to tighten the score to 13-14 before a service error gave the Tigers back the momentum. The Tigers ran up the score to 13-20 before the Chargers could reestablish their game - and bring the score to 18-20. After trading a point or two at a time, Urbana earned a first set point attempt at 22-24. After siding out, Centennial fought back to a 25-24 set point. Urbana had an opportunities at 25-26, 26-27, 27-28, 28-29, and 29-30 before the Chargers had a second set point opportunity and converted to win the set 32-30.
In set two, the Chargers again relinquished an early lead falling to 0-4 before quickly pulling back to 5-5. No team led by more than two with a number of lead changes until the tie at 18-18. Centennial pulled away to 18-20 and did not allow Urbana to come any closer, winning 25-20.
Centennial JV Volleyball is now 25-2 with 36 straight sets won. Lindsay Rogan and Ellen Frazier, with 13 and 10 assists respectively, spread out the Chargers' attack. Courtney Stamm had 6 kills, Allie Shannon and Jennifer Wise each had 5, Rogan had 4, Olivia Johnson and McKenzie Bonnett each had 3. Stamm led the defense with 13 digs, with another 26 spread among the rest of her team. Kelsey Olion had 5 digs and led Charger servers with 4 aces and 11 total service points.
