Varsity Girls Volleyball Takes 2nd Place at Lake Forest Invite
DHS took 2nd at the Lake Forest Invite losing in the finals to Lake Forest 26-28, 15-25 in a field of 8 teams. Deerfield started the morning off in pool play defeating Lane Tech and Grayslake North, both in two games. The girls volleyball team's only defeats were to Lake Forest, once in pool play and later in the finals. The DHS girls defeated Hoffman Estates in the semi-finals 25-21, 25-23.
Senior leader co-captains Taylor Stanfel and Marlee Wesselhoff lead the team at the net with 26 and 27 kills respectively. Junior Melanie Kuczek lead the team in blocks with 15 and added 33 kills. Senior Erica Joseph set up the offense with 82 assists for 22%. Junior Aliza Goldberg, allowing Joseph to get the ball to middle hitters Kuczek and Stanfe, passed a game high of 2.32. Senior Tami Rosin served strong with 7 service aces.
"It was a great all team effort. I was really impressed with the team's sense of confidence throughout the tournament and ability to remain calm in tight matches. The fact that the 6 different players lead different statistical categories shows how diverse our team can be." stated Coach Judas
