Soccer Warriors Topple Giants

Warrior weather returned to Adams Field again on Tuesday night, and the Deerfield varsity soccer team once again performed well despite rainy, windy, and muddy conditions, beating the Giants of Highland Park 4-1. Scottie Lakin got the Warriors on the board first when he executed a give and go with A.J. Pew and ripped a left footed shot into the far side netting in the 14th minute. Ten minutes later, Robbie Patterson worked the ball out of the back to Connor Holloway, whose through ball sent Zack Pearlstein in on a breakaway. Pearlstein beat the Giants keeper to the ball and flicked the ball up and over the keeper for a 2-0 lead. The Giants got a goal back in the 28th minute, and the rest of the half was fairly even. Midway through the second half, the Warriors won a corner kick. Joey Calistri drove the ball to the far post, where Connor Holloway headed the ball back across the face of the goal for Michael Newman to head home for a 3-1 lead. Holloway got this third assist of the game in the final minute when his perfectly placed through ball found Brett Newman, who calmly first timed the ball into the lower corner. The Warriors improved their record to 14-3-1, and will continue their season ending homestand on Thursday night when they celebrate senior night at Adams Field against Northridge Prep.
