JV Girls VB Making Strides -- Huge Win over Huskies!
After a somewhat slow start to the season, the JV girls volleyball team has worked very hard to put the pieces together in order to compete at a high level with greater consistency. The focus for this team has been tough serving and ball control along with relentless defense. The aggressive serving and defense were instrumental in helping the Warriors pull off two big back-to-back wins in as many nights. The first victory was over conference opponent Maine East where Deerfield served up 18 aces to win (25-19, 25-20). Emma Forlow had 7 of those aces and Hannah Rosin had 6 of her own to go with a team high 6 digs. Mara Kaufman kept the pressure offensively on the Demons with 5 kills.
The more impressive feat came the next evening when the Warriors visited Hersey (a team that had previously beaten Deerfield twice this year and had one loss on their entire season thus far). The tough serving continued with Hannah Rosin leading the charge with 5 of the team's 11 aces. She also had 6 kills and a team high 13 digs. Kristen O'Neill and Kristen Dahlberg helped secure the defense with their 7 and 6 digs, respectively. Quinn Hirsch (10 assists) put down 6 kills of her own, including 2 of the last 4 Deerfield points to help propel the Warriors past the Huskies in three games (25-21, 14-25, 26-24).
The girls hope to continue their strong play into next week when they host Niles North on Tuesday (October 6th). The team will also be looking for sponsors to help raise funds for their charity (Orphans of the Storm) in a service-a-thon, so be sure to come on out and support the team!
Go Warriors!
