LOYOLA ACADEMY INVITATIONAL

DFDC Moves at Montrose Harbor

DFDC Moves at Montrose Harbor

On Saturday Oct 3rd the DFDC traveled to the beautiful Montrose Harbor to compete in the Loyola Sean Earl Invitational. This meet has really grown over the years and has gotten tougher and tougher. Not only does it give the boys at EVERY level a chance to run a true 5K (which was even longer this year) , the course was cold, et, and Cricket Hill 3 times always makes it a mentally tough challenge as the DFDC does not see collegiate style courses like this too often. All in all the coaches heard many boys mention this was the most fun meet of the year as there were elementary school 2K’s and collegiate Men and Women’s 10K spread throughout the day, music blasting throughout the meet over the PA, and JIM SPIVEY handing out the awards (who by the way knows every DHS runner from the National Champion 1977 team by NAME!); therefore, the day really becomes a celebration of everything CC and what is great about the sport of competitive running. Fun Stuff!

Despite another course with a hill (for those who did Whitney Young last week), the Deerfield F/S looked particularly strong in yesterday's race. Led by medalist Makoto Bowering (11), the other F/S top seven included Jordan Abosch (23), Matt Treshansky (25), Alex Gold (29), Jack DiMatteo (46), Michael Schraiber (58) and Scott Pierce (69). The Team finished 5th out of a very tough 20 Team Field and was just 32 pts out of 3rd. This was the highest finish by a DHS F/S team at this meet!

Kenny Thompson (55) paced the JV squad to an 11th place finish out of 16 teams, followed by Dan Rich (58), Bryan Rosenberg (66), David Palmer (67), Dylan Burke (72), Brandon Bernardi (74) and Geoff Hackett (80). Big kicks form Chase Hanusa, Geoff Hackett, Max Rich, and many others were fun to watch as they stromed down the last hill. It's quite impressive to see some of the freshmen running so strongly in the JV race!

Pat Wylie (9) medaled for the varsity, propelling them to a 13th place overall finish out of 32 teams in the toughest Varsity field to date top to bottom. Other Varsity in the top seven included Brian Haley (86), Stephen Stitcher (98), Michael Bukszar (101), Justin Ferdman (129), Corey Shayman (133), and Joey Feinberg (151).

**Full race results for each of the races are at www.loyolaramblers.com.

Click on Cross country and you will see the results on the right hand side of the screen.

Note: When looking at the times the course was LONGER than 3.1 miles.

The DFDC’s next meet is a big one. The CSL Championships will be held at GBS High School on Saturday Oct 17th at 9:00am. This is the 1st year of the new league format of racing against all 12 CSL North and South teams. This will make for a truly high level and exciting race and CSL Championship experience.

See you there!
