DFDC Goes 1,1,2,3 at CSL Championships

On Saturday Oct 17th the DFDC traveled to Glenbrook South H.S. for the newly formatted CSL North Championships in which the CSL South and the North combined for the first time in nearly 3 decades to compete as a 12 team league. This cause for a very different meet and race experience and it was an electric atmosphere to say the least. The meet has an interesting format as one gets a chance to see how the team and individuals finished overall out of all 12 teams and then they determine the North and South Champions by scoring out the teams respectively and combining the Quad meet results to determine the overall North and South Champions. This is also true as they then take the Top 14 I the North and South to determine the

CSL All-Conference selections. The Varsity team finished 7th in the 12 team results and 4th in the CSL North breakdown behind Champ Maine West, GBN, and 3rd place Niles North. Using the Quad results of being 4-1 going into the meet the DFDC finished 3rd overall in the CSL North for 2009. A solid showing in one of the toughest league meets in years. The Sophomores finished 4th in the 12 team standings and 2nd overall including Quad results for the CSL North League results. The Frosh took home the Championship, by placing 3rd overall in the 12 team standings and 1st Place in the CSL North including the Quad meet results. This was a great accomplishment by the young DFDC as they not only dominated the CSL North but showed they can compete at the elite 12 team level. The future looks very bright for these Frosh and Soph squads. The JV had an awesome race as they finished 2nd out of the 12 team field and had the highest finish in the 12 team results of any DFDC squad! This was also their 4th straight CSL North Championship for the JV squad! Congrats JV!

All CSL North Conference athletes were:

Freshmen: Patrick Brunk, Bryan Rosenberg, Jacob Ferber, Jack DiMatteo,

Alex Gold & Jordan Abosch
Sophomores: Jack Umlauf, Michael Schraiber, Scott Pierce, Greg Klein & Matt Treshansky
Varsity: Makoto Bowering, & CONFERENCE CHAMPION: Pat Wylie (this is the 5th year in arrow that DFDC runner has won the CSL North individual title; furthermore, special mention goes to Pat as he finished 4th in the CSL League standings, right behind 3 of the states best runners from New Trier and Maine South.
JV: David Khalameyzer, Kevin Hanes-Gonzales, David Christians, Corey Shayman

& Jacob Cohen

In addition to the All-Conference honors, there were many other great performances. Cody Foerch broke 20 yesterday -- building up some more speed to fuel his upcoming discus performance for track season. Lewis Goodpasture took another minute off his time, and had marathon feet to show for his efforts -- a big, dramatic blister as evidence of his determination. Tristan Nunez just missed All Conference, and looked strong throughout the race. Joey Zinsky and Jack Whisler showed they'd taken the coaches advice on the strength of a pack to heart in the first half of the sophomore race. All three of those sophomores are first year cross country athletes, with a lot of opportunity ahead of them.

*ALL in all a great day for the CSL and the DFDC.

Next up is the Prospect Invitational and the IHSA Regionals which start Saturday at 2:00pm with the girls race and then the boys at 3:00pmn at Lake Forest West Campus just off of Waukegan Rd. Here we go into the 2nd season!
