Game Summary:
DEERFIELD H.S. 1
@IHSA REGIONAL vs CARMEL 0

Soccer Wins Regional Championship

For the fourth consecutive year, the Deerfield Warriors brought home a regional championship trophy. David Panter scored the only goal of the game to lead the Warriors to a 1-0 victory. The first half was evenly played, with each team having chances to score. Michael Newman headed a corner kick just over the bar. At the other end, Matt Glassman made a great diving save to keep the game scoreless. The Warriors had the ball in the net early in the second half when Newman rose up over his defender to head home a free kick, but the goal was ruled out by a foul call. With eleven minutes remaining in regulation, Brian McHugh won a tackle and broke down the right sideline. McHugh found Ollie Speirs, whose pass found Panter at the top of the area. Panter took a touch and ripped a rocket past the keeper and into the back of the net for the only goal of the game. The Warrior defense, led by McHugh, Brandon Mayer, and Scottie Lakin, made the lead stand up. Connor Holloway had an outstanding game, winning tackles and distributing the ball while shutting down the Carmel midfield. The Warriors improve to 17-3-1 on the season and will take on Stevenson in the sectional semi final at Stevenson at 5:30PM on Wednesday.
