DFDC Season Ends at Tough Sectional

DFDC Season Ends at Tough Sectional

The 2009 DFDC season ended at the toughest meet of the year. The 2009 IHSA Sectional at Busse Woods was one of the deepest TEAM fields in many years and add that the course was an absolute muddy mess and a good old fashioned bitter stiff wind and you have the makings of one very tough cross country race. The DFDC came in to the meet seeded to get 19th out of 20 teams and they beat their seed by placing 17th and having their best #2-5 pack split of exactly 20 seconds of the year. In a word this was one of the Best team efforts by the DFDC this season and a great way for a great group of Seniors to finish up their CC seasons. As we always say “runners are for all seasons” and I could not think of a better way for them to go out than on what we call a “Visigoth” course! This greatly affected many of the runners from all teams in the race as they slipped and fell and this changed many potential state qualifiers position and outcomes.

The DFDC Sectional team was:

SR- Pat Wylie-44, SO- Makoto Bowering- 84, SR-Dan Channon-91, SR-Brian Haley-95,

SR-Mike Bukszar-106, JR-Joey Feinberg-121, SR-Stephen Stitcher-122

These Seniors and team helped pioneer higher levels of training and overcame so many injuries, illness, scheduling issues, and many other obstacles to JUST GET to the Sectional meet in one piece. That was a true representation of the dedication and passion this team showed. I believe the best example of what this team had when it was 100% healthy and had ALL of its parts, so to speak, was when they raced at the CSL Quad Meet #1 in mid September and went 3-0 and beat GBN (who finished Top 10 at the Schaumburg Sectionals and a Niles North group that finished Top 10 at the Niles West Sectional as well). This in the coaches mind truly showed what this team was capable of before stress fractures, broken feet, walking pneumonia, flu, cold, and about everything else you can imagine hit this team hard.

One lasting memory going into the final week of practice and meet for this team was that one would have never known based on the way they focused, practiced, and how “their goals never changed” that the 2009 DFDC had faced and conquered so much adversity as they trained and acted with a STATE CHAMPIONSHIP purpose and heart all week and all season.

Great season DFDC!

Thank you Fans and Parents for the best year of support yet!

We will see all of you ON THE TRACK!

GO DFDC!
