ELGIN -- Several local players advanced from the Elgin Girls Tennis Sectional to the State Tournament on Saturday.

Elgin's Jacey Sirinit, Hampshire's Kate Hougland, Streamwood's Jennifer Mellenthin and Elgin Academy's Bianca Swegler were the singles qualifiers.

Sirinit had little trouble, winning all four matches in straight sets and only losing six total games.

Two Jacobs duos led the doubles qualifiers, as Kassandra Bernardo and Lindsey Gardeck and Marcilyn Rowan and Lauren Steinkamp each advanced.

Hampshire's Kelsey Burke and Vanassa Patthana and Huntley's Sam Chapman and Ashley Pietrusiak also qualified in doubles action.

Burke and Patthana clinched their state berth on Friday, becoming the first tennis players in school history to qualify for state.
