Giants Clinch CSL North Football Title, with 22-16 Win Over Deerfield.
For the first time, in school history, the Giants football team captured back to back Central Suburban League North Conference Championships. The 2nd consecutive title came on the heels of a 22-16 win over District 113 rival, Deerfield. After the opening kickoff, Deerfield drove down the field, but the Giants defense held strong, holding the Warriors to a field goal. In sloppy field conditions, the Giants ground game, proved to be to much, for the Warriors. On the Giants third offensive play, Jordan Reisner took a handoff and scampered 60 yards, for the Giants first touchdown. Matt Nieto added the extra point, making the score HP 7, DHS 3. Reisner and the Giants expanded the lead, as he scored the 2nd, of his three touchdowns, on a 3 yard run. On the ensuing extra point, Josh Katlin bobbled the snap and picked up the ball, to run in the two point conversion. Highland Park led 15-3, at the half. The 2nd half started with the Giants going 3 and out, but the defense also had a stop. On the next HP possesion, the Giants drove down the field behind the offensive line of Nick Block, Will Biagi, Michael Feldman, Willie Goldberg, Andrew Bernardi and blocking backs Josh Katlin and Nick Fiore. The impressive drive was capped off with Jordan Reisner's third touchdown, of the day, a 17 yard run. Matt Nieto's extra point gave the Giants a 22-3 lead. In the 4th quarter, the Giants gave up a touchdown, making the score 22-9. As the Giants were trying to run out the clock, a fumbled exchange gave the Warriors good field position. Deerfield scored another touchdown, on a pass, making the score 22-16, with 22 seconds left. Josh Katlin recovered the onside kick and the Giants took a knee, securing the win. Jordan Reisner rushed for 172 yards, on 28 carries. He surpassed the 1,000 mark, for the season. Defensively, the Giants were led by Brett Weiss. He recorded 17 tackles and the defensive backfield recorded 4 interceptions. Bobby Lindquist had two. Jordan Reisner and Matt Nieto added the others. Brendan Rhatican played well, from his defensive end position. The Giants stand at 5-3, overall and 4-0, in the CSL North.
