5 Runners advance to Sectional
the Leyden girls' cross country team competed at the Lake Park IHSA regional meet on Saturday. Leyden has not competed in the regional in the past 3 years and faced a high level of competition. Top 5 teams from the regional advance on to the sectional meet (next saturday) and then the next top 5 individuals will advance. Leyden ended up finishing 6th to some very strong teams. However, all was not lost, as the top 5 lady eagles secured the only individual qualifiying positions and will be running at the Niles West Sectional next Saturday. York won the meet with 21 pts, Lake Park was 2nd with 73, Maine South was third with 84, Glenbard East was 4th with 92, and Willowbrook took 5th with 118. Leyden had 156 for 6th.
Megan Frigo (Sr.) from York ran the 3.0 mile course in 18:21 to secure the win. Marta Korpacz (Sr.) was the first Eagle to finish in a time of 20:08 for 22nd place. She was followed by Anna Perkowski (20:34 for 29th place), Summer Garcia (21:09 for 34th place), Megan Murphy (21:12 in 35th place), and Kristen Jones (21:17 for 36th place). All five of these ladies will be advancing on to the Sectional meet
