Opening Night - Franklin Park Ice Arena, Sunday 9/27/09
With a team of 11 skaters, many who play football and are bruised up, freshman who played their first ever HS game hockey game, a VARSITY level game, a goaltender who played like the Berlin Wall, a squad which had only 9 practices together and have all new coaches.......... the Nazareth boys hockey team gutted out a 3-2 victory in a very hard-hitting game over CCM.
Upperclassmen put up three goals, freshman phenoms, Phil Martyn and Nate Wytonek neutralized a strong CCM offense to give the team an opening night victory.
Assistant Coach, Jeff Wytonek, managed lines of tired, determined defensmen and gave the team the balance needed to hold CCM off the scoreboard at the end of the game, when CCM pulled their goalie for the 6th attacker.
The philosophy for the bench is to play to your potential, play with the same enthusiasm and determination whether we're winning 9-0 or losing 9-0 and to keep criticisms and negativity out of the game (we fix things in practices). We reward efforts instead of achievements. Coach Z
