Meeting Minutes

 

I.  Welcome
  • Dennis Michels opened the meeting with a welcome. Todd Shafer introduced the new Athletic Director, Mike Ryan of Shepard High School.
II. Assignment Chairperson’s – Spring 2001
  • Spring Assignment Chairpersons distributed schedules for 2001 and clarified procedures.
    • Les Duncan – Softball, Baseball
    • Herb Priebe – Softball West
    • Tim Kerr – Baseball West
    • Diana Morrow – Girls’ Soccer
    • Marilyn Dykstra – Boys’ Volleyball
    • Terri Lacy – Boys’ Gymnastics
  • Lisa Ferry is still working on assignment chair evaluations.
  • Sports due to Assignment Chairs on March 15 (Girls’ Gymnastics, Boys’ Swimming, Frosh and JV Football, Boys’ Soccer, Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball
III.  Sportsmanship Follow-up
  • Homer Thomas provided Sportsmanship Seminar follow-up.
  • Joliet will host the next workshop.
  • The general body voted unanimously to every other year format.
IV. Murphy Golf Outing – Rich Piatchek
  • Rich Piatchek discussed the upcoming Murphy Golf Outing on May 17, 2001.
V.  Boys’ Tennis Conference Discussion
  • Dennis Michels stated that the Walaszak Rule could be applied to correct the imbalance alignment in Boys’ Tennis.
  • There are currently five Conferences consisting of 7, 6, 6, 6 and 5 teams.
  • The general body and Stagg supported the move of Stagg High School out of the West and into the East Conference.
  • The Board of Control met after the general meeting and voted unanimously to accept the general body’s recommendation to move Stagg to the East Conference.
VI. Winter Conference Host Sites – Phil Svetich
  • Final copies of the Winter Conference host sites will be available after the next general meeting.
VII. Principal’s Board of Control Report – Dennis Michels
  • Dennis Michels surveyed the general body to find the number of schools offering Water Polo. There is a possibility of Water Polo duplicating the Boys’ Volleyball model.
  • Lisa Ferry will attend the Principals’ Board of Control Meeting on March 13 at Lincoln-Way.
VIII. Spring Schedules – Rich Piatchek
  • Rich Piatchek reviewed spring schedules. Minor discrepancies were clarified.
IX.Technology Report
  • Jimmy Daniels gave an overview of the upcoming technology workshop. Ron Phillips will be present.
  • The next general meeting will be on April 4 at T.F. South. The agenda will include spring scheduling and computer workshop.
X. Old Business
  • IADA Conference, May 5, 6, 7 and 8 at Holiday Inn/Gateway Center, Collinsville, Illinois.
  • Tim Smith provided an update on the convention hospitality room.
  • All SICA All-Academic Team names are due to Homer Thomas at Richards High School by April 15.
XI.New Business
  • Gold card recipients’ names should be submitted to Dennis Michels ASAP.
  • Retiring athletic directors’ names should be submitted to Dennis Michels.
  • Dennis Michels will order plaques for the May meeting.
  • Spring coaches’ names and phone numbers were distributed.
  • Homewood-Flossmoor, Kankakee and Bradley-Bourbonnais will have Spring Break before Easter.
  • Chicago Bulls High School Night promotional information was discussed.
  • Ron Ray and Dennis Michels led discussion relative to girls’ pole vault in upcoming IHSA Sectional and State competitions.
