ATHLETIC DIRECTORS’ GENERAL MEETING

GREEN GARDEN COUNTRY CLUB

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2000

Meeting Minutes

 

I.    Assignment Chairperson
  • Tom Heniff, Wrestling Chairperson informed the body of his retirement and the most efficient way to communicate with him. Tom stated that all calls should be at his residence. He also asked the Athletic Directors to communicate information regarding the quality of officials’ work, including tardies, no-shows, and general attitude.
  • Tom O’Neill and Jim Utterback distributed home Boys’ Basketball schedules to be doubled checked by each Athletic Director. Schools should make arrangements for 3-man crews as soon as possible.
II. Terry McCombs, President IADA
  • Terry thanked the Conference for the invitation and discussed the need for more representation from Division #3 in the IADA State Conference. Athletic Directors are encouraged to call Terry at 630-271-6580 with ideas to increase participation.
III.  Joe Skowronski, Eisenhower A.D.
  • Joe Skowronski distributed and discussed information related to catastrophic spinal cord injuries. Unfortunately, Joe and Eisenhower High School are going through difficult times as a result of such an injury to one of their varsity football players. The Clark family expressed their thanks for the cards, letters, and flowers.
  • Bob Mitchell shared his recent experience related to a player injury. He reminded everyone that the Administrator in Charge should not leave until the game has ended. This issue could be the topic of a discussion panel at the IADA Conference.
IV. Technology Committee Report, Jimmy Daniels & Rich Piatchek
  • Jimmy Daniels and Rich Piatchek distributed copies of the West Suburban Conference web site, Athletic2000.com, and led a discussion related to the technology needs of SICA. Terry McComb shared his perspective on the web site and expressed support. Dennis Michel received a unanimous vote of support from the general body to bring up this subject to the Principals’ Board of Control.
V.  Due Dates to Assignment Chairs, Lisa Ferry
  • Lisa has requested input from Les Duncan and will follow-up with Tom Sidote.
VI. Officials’ Committee Report, Todd Shafer
  • Todd Shafer presented a comprehensive report on officials’ compensation.

Motion by Bob Lightell to present NISOC pay schedule to Principals’ Board of Control, seconded by Homer Thomas.

Motion carried. 19 - yes 10 - no

VII. Fall Schedules Handout
  • The fall schedules were distributed and contracts may be processed.
VIII.Wrestling Conference Meets
  • There appears to be some confusion related to the Conference Wrestling Tournament and Dual Meets after this year. Additional research and clarification is needed.
IX. Soccer Regional Tournaments, Diana Morrow
  • Diana Morrow stated that due to a shortage of qualified referees, only two officials would be assigned to Regional games. She also said that games should start at 4:30 p.m. and reminded Athletic Directors of the time change on October 29.
X. Staff Activity Pass
  • The SICA Athletic Handbook states that schools should issue staff activity passes and such passes must be honored at all SICA Schools.
XI.ASEP Meeting
  • Oak Forest will be hosting an ASEP class this weekend.
XII. Sportsmanship Summit, Homer Thomas
  • Homer Thomas gave a brief update on the Sportsmanship Summit.
XIII. NIAAA Report, Ken Shultz
  • Ken Shultz once again encouraged everyone to join NIAAA.
XIV. General Discussion "Cross Over Games"
  • The issue of "Cross Over Games" was discussed by the general body.
XV. T-shirts With SICA Swimming On Them
  • Organizations must apply for approval to use the SICA logo on T-shirts.

XVIII. Conference Meetings
  • The Annual Division #3 Meeting of the IADA is scheduled for Wednesday, October 25, beginning at 1:00 p.m. The meeting will be at the South Campus of Lyons Township High School.
