ATHLETIC DIRECTOR’S GENERAL MEETING

NOVEMBER 7, 2001

MINUTES

 

 

Meeting called to order 9:40 a.m.  (Fall scheduling took lace from 8:30-9:40 a.m.)

 

·       Reports given by Tom O’Neill and Charlie McCarthy on basketball & swimming officials.

·       Lisa Ferry recognized all SICA teams for their accomplishments this past fall season.

·       Principal’s Board of Control approved football/wrestling alignment for 2002-2003/2003-2004 school years.

·       Principal’s Board of Control recommends to stay with a straight percentage raise for assignment chairmen.

·       Principal’s Board of Control recommended having all teams present with the National Anthem.  Would like to see this in the handbook.

·       Rich Piatchek gave the District 3 IADA report.  Schools should be receiving their ballots in the next few days.  Larry Bernard (Bolingbrook) and Len Motta (Sandburg) were nominated for District 3 Athletic Director of the Year.

·       Reminder that all spring schedules for 2001-2002 were due by October 15th.

·       Jimmy Daniels gave a technology update.

·       Tom Sidote reported on the status of assignment chairmen.  We seem to be paying less to assignment chairmen than other conferences.  Concern is do we continue this procedure and fear losing assignment chairmen or do we reexamine how we pay chairs.  Discussion ensued.

·       Gawaine Perkins gave officials’ fees update for the winter sports.  Was approved by the group.

·       Motion made by Robert Lightell, seconded by Rich Piatchek to approve same pay for

3-man crew that we pay for 2-man crew.  Approved unanimously.

·       Mark Sutton passed out decals of Bradley to remind schools not to stomp on their mascot on the center of the floor.

·       Handbook revisions:

o      Badminton – Kent Irvin

§       Recommendation to have a form listing records for seeding purposes.

§       New format – 3 out of 5 matches up to 7 points

§       New to add to Section 1 #8

o      Baseball – Rich Piatchek

§       No meeting yet

o      Boys Gymnastics – Joe Skoronski

§       Wanted to add a provision that states individuals from SICA schools who wish to compete in the conference championship meet must compete in at least one dual against each school fielding a gymnastics team.

o      Softball – Tim Smith

§       No meeting yet

o      Track & Field – Mark Zych

§       Pole vault needs to be added to our handbook.

 

o      Volleyball – Paul Rybarczyk

§       Would like the host school to provide the volleyballs.

§       Wanted to eliminate the starting times and add “by mutual agreement”.

§       Conference meeting should take place on the Monday after the last SICA contest.

§       Recommended a standardized form for all-conference nominations.

§       Clarification on several items in the handbook.

§       Reported that the volleyball coaches, by a vote of 25-0, wish to replace Les Duncan as volleyball assignment chairman.

·       These handbook revision recommendations will be voted on at the next meeting.

·       Homer Thomas gave a 10 minute report on Richards High School’s Freshman Academic Skills Center.

·       Dennis Michels brought up cross country conference championship.  Some conferences had three or less teams inter, while other conferences fielded seven teams.  Is this a problem and if so what can/should we do about this.  Discussion followed.

·       Kent Irvin brought up school calendar for next year.  Prairie State exams will be over the traditional Easter break.

·       Tome Sidote passed out spring all-conference dates and sites.

·       Will mega all-conference meetings be continued?  Positive comments thus far.  Motion made by Dennis Michels, seconded by Bob Mitchell to continue mega meetings.  Motion passed unanimously.

·       Reminder – Board of Control meeting is Wednesday, November 14th at 9:00 at Green Garden, hosted by Lincoln-Way East.

·       Motion to adjourn made by Larry Bernard, seconded by Tom Sidote.  Meeting adjourned at 11:11.

 

SICA WEST

OPENINGS, NEEDS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

·       Lockport has openings for F/S boys cross country invite on October 10, 2002

·       Lincoln-Way Central needs

1.     Freshman A&B and Sophomore football for first week next year.

2.     Football (all levels) for first week in 2003.

§       Andrew will host a girls golf scramble next fall.  information is on the division tables.

§       Andrew needs head girls volleyball coach for 2002-2003.

§       Lincoln-Way East needs one varsity girls volleyball tournament for next year..

§       Joliet needs

1.     One wrestling date this season – home or away

2.     Frosh B baseball games for spring 2002.  See sheet handed out for dates.

3.     One girls volleyball date for fall 2002.

 

SICA EAST

OPENINGS, NEEDS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

§       Bloom Township needs freshman boys soccer, fall, 2002.

§       Thornton needs

1.     One girls volleyball contest

2.     Opening for two girls tennis matches.

§       Thornridge needs

1.     Varsity & Sophomore girls tennis (home or away) for 2002

2.     One girls basketball game (home or away) for 2002-2003 – varsity, soph, freshman

3.     Boys Tennis – spring 2002 – varsity & soph.

§       Thornwood needs one volleyball team for sophomore tournament on October 26, 2002

 

SICA SOUTH.

OPENINGS, NEEDS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

·       Rich Central needs JV boys basketball games for this year.

·       Kankakee needs girls freshman basketball – this year.

 

SICA NORTH

·       Reavis needs

1.     Girls soccer – varsity/soph – home or away for spring 2002

2.     Girls volleyball, fall 2002 – see handout – varsity quad & JV quad – dates listed.

§       Argo needs freshman softball coach, spring 2002

§       Richards has 40 wrestlers

 

SICA CENTRAL

§       Girls basketball is the bigger problem with Les Duncan’s oficials

§       Volleyball is a problem with the close games

§       There is no training of lower level officials by the assignment chairman or mentors

§       Les does way too much for SICA – need to re-look at his official load

§       TF South is looking for a varsity girls volleyball tournament.

§       Tinley Park needs freshman football game first week, 2002

§       TF North needs varsity/soph/freshman football game for first week, 2002 season

§       Hillcrest will be charging admission for girls’ basketball games - $3.00/$2.00
