SOUTH
INTER-CONFERENCE ASSOCIATION ATHLETIC
DIRECTOR’S GENERAL MEETING NOVEMBER 7,
2001 MINUTES Meeting
called to order 9:40 a.m. (Fall
scheduling took lace from 8:30-9:40 a.m.) · Reports given
by Tom O’Neill and Charlie McCarthy on basketball & swimming officials. · Lisa Ferry
recognized all SICA teams for their accomplishments this past fall season. · Principal’s
Board of Control approved football/wrestling alignment for 2002-2003/2003-2004
school years. · Principal’s
Board of Control recommends to stay with a straight percentage raise for
assignment chairmen. · Principal’s
Board of Control recommended having all teams present with the National
Anthem. Would like to see this in the
handbook. · Rich Piatchek
gave the District 3 IADA report.
Schools should be receiving their ballots in the next few days. Larry Bernard (Bolingbrook) and Len Motta
(Sandburg) were nominated for District 3 Athletic Director of the Year. · Reminder that
all spring schedules for 2001-2002 were due by October 15th. · Jimmy Daniels
gave a technology update. · Tom Sidote
reported on the status of assignment chairmen.
We seem to be paying less to assignment chairmen than other
conferences. Concern is do we continue
this procedure and fear losing assignment chairmen or do we reexamine how we
pay chairs. Discussion ensued. · Gawaine
Perkins gave officials’ fees update for the winter sports. Was approved by the group. · Motion made by
Robert Lightell, seconded by Rich Piatchek to approve same pay for 3-man crew that we pay for 2-man
crew. Approved unanimously. · Mark Sutton
passed out decals of Bradley to remind schools not to stomp on their mascot on
the center of the floor. · Handbook
revisions: o
Badminton – Kent Irvin § Recommendation
to have a form listing records for seeding purposes. § New format – 3
out of 5 matches up to 7 points § New to add to
Section 1 #8 o
Baseball – Rich Piatchek § No meeting yet o
Boys Gymnastics – Joe Skoronski § Wanted to add
a provision that states individuals from SICA schools who wish to compete in
the conference championship meet must compete in at least one dual against each
school fielding a gymnastics team. o
Softball – Tim Smith § No meeting yet o
Track & Field – Mark Zych § Pole vault
needs to be added to our handbook. o
Volleyball – Paul Rybarczyk § Would like the
host school to provide the volleyballs. § Wanted to
eliminate the starting times and add “by mutual agreement”. § Conference
meeting should take place on the Monday after the last SICA contest. § Recommended a
standardized form for all-conference nominations. § Clarification
on several items in the handbook. § Reported that
the volleyball coaches, by a vote of 25-0, wish to replace Les Duncan as
volleyball assignment chairman. · These handbook
revision recommendations will be voted on at the next meeting. · Homer Thomas
gave a 10 minute report on Richards High School’s Freshman Academic Skills
Center. · Dennis Michels
brought up cross country conference championship. Some conferences had three or less teams inter, while other
conferences fielded seven teams. Is
this a problem and if so what can/should we do about this. Discussion followed. · Kent Irvin
brought up school calendar for next year.
Prairie State exams will be over the traditional Easter break. · Tome Sidote
