ELGIN -- For much of the decisive third set at the Westminster Christian Class 1A Regional final against Hinckley-Big Rock on Saturday, the host Warriors looked overmatched and out of sync, and with good reason.
Senior outside hitter Jessica Benson rolled her right ankle early on in the set and was carried off the court. In her absence, the Warriors unraveled, bringing their record-setting season to an end with a 25-20, 14-25, 25-10 loss.
Westminster (24-11) simply had no one left who could convert kill attempts.
"When the injury happens to your go-to player, then it makes a huge difference," WC coach Guy Lum said. "You don't want that kind of thing to happen, but sometimes it does."
Benson was on her way to a stellar match, totaling seven kills, two aces, two assists and six digs before exiting.
Hinckley-Big Rock moved to 25-8-1 with the win.
Hannah Graves (17 assists) and freshman Cara Tyrrell (6 kills, 7 digs) also had solid showings for the Warriors.
